Spencer Aronfeld (born September 5, 1965) is an American personal injury attorney known for his work in cruise ship litigation and consumer safety advocacy.[1] He is the founder of Aronfeld Trial Lawyers, based in Coral Gables, Florida, and has represented clients in cases involving cruise lines, medical malpractice, and environmental issues.[2]

Early Life and Education

[edit]

Spencer Aronfeld was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Wichita, Kansas.[3] He graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1991.[4] Soon after, he established Aronfeld Trial Lawyers, focusing on personal injury and cruise ship litigation.[5]

[edit]

Aronfeld has focused on advocating for passenger rights in cruise ship litigation, representing clients in personal injury cases against major cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian Cruise Line. His advocacy has centered on improving safety and transparency within the cruise industry.[6]

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

[edit]

Following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Aronfeld represented Vietnamese and Cambodian fishermen affected by the environmental disaster. His work highlighted economic and language barriers faced by these communities in seeking compensation for lost fishing grounds.[7] Aronfeld's non-profit organization, Lawyers to the Rescue, helped coordinate legal aid for those impacted by the spill.[8]

Notable Cases

[edit]
  • Florida International University Pedestrian Bridge Collapse: In March 2018, Aronfeld represented survivors of the FIU bridge collapse, including Richard Humble and Katrina Collazo de Armas. The lawsuit alleged negligence in safety measures by companies involved in the bridge's design and construction.[9]
  • Circumcision Case: Aronfeld represented a woman who sued South Miami Hospital after her newborn son was circumcised without her consent, claiming it went against the family's instructions.[10]
  • Walt Disney World Lawsuit: In 1995, Aronfeld won a case against Walt Disney World, securing a $100,000 verdict for a client involved in a personal injury incident. The case highlighted Disney’s liability in certain personal injury matters.[11]

Publications

[edit]

Aronfeld has authored two books:

  • "Sara Rose, Kid Lawyer": A children’s book inspired by his daughter that introduces young readers to the legal profession.[12]
  • "Make It Your Own Law Firm: The Ultimate Law Student's Guide to Owning, Managing, and Marketing Your Own Successful Law Firm": A guide for law students and recent graduates on establishing a law practice.[13]

Non-Profit Work

[edit]

In 2010, Aronfeld founded *Lawyers to the Rescue*, a nonprofit organization providing pro bono legal assistance to underserved communities. The organization began by supporting Haitian immigrants following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, coordinating legal aid for those affected by the disaster.[14] In Miami, the organization regularly hosts clinics at shelters, providing free legal consultations on civil and immigration matters.[15]

Awards and Recognition

[edit]

Aronfeld has been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer and was named a Top 100 Civil Plaintiff Lawyer in Florida by The National Trial Lawyers.[16]
