"Smoke" is a song by American singer-songwriter and record producer Caroline Polachek. It was released on 14 Febraury, 2023 through Perpetual Novice as the eleventh track from her fourth studio album, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You. The track is written by Polachek and Danny L Harle, and produced by Polachek and Harle.[1][2]It was later released as the sixth single from the album.[3]
Background and composition
[edit]The song was premiered live at Heaven in London on March 11, 2020.[4] It was further teased and performed during Polachek's 2021 festival dates, along with other songs like Sunset from her then future release, which ended up being Desire, I Want To Turn Into You.[5]
Polachek describes the song as a breakbeat song, and as the first of its kind to be written for the album and that the song shares its bridge melody with Pretty In Possible, the second track from the same album. She also states that the song as connections with her 2019 song "Pang", which is the title track of her third studio album, Pang, released in 2019.[1]
Music Video
[edit]The song was released as a single on April 6 2023. It was accompanied by a music video which premiered on the same day. The video was shot when Polachek was rehearsing for her third headlining concert tour, Spiraling Tour.[6]It was directed by Matt Copson.[7]
