Billi Now Now! Straight on Track

[edit]

In 2023, Sigauque Project collaborated with youth activist musicians Black 5 and Dedu One to record two French-language songs in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on youth sexual and reproductive health and rights. The song tracks, music videos, and music-themed radio drama were distributed through social media in Francophone West Africa in 2023 and 2024, to raise awareness and discussion among youth.[3]

Music & Comics for HIV/AIDS Prevention

[edit]

In 2012, Sigauque Project co-created three Portuguese-language songs and 12 illustrated wall comics with youth in peri-urban Maputo, Mozambique to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention. Funded by PEPFAR Mozambique, the songs were launched during a community concert.[4]

Musicians Against Xenophobia

[edit]

This 2008 initiative brought together musicians from Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe to record 3 songs addressing xenophobia. Funded by MMINO, the project included surveys of migrants in Johannesburg to inform song writing.[5]

In collaboration with musicians and the Alertas da Vida youth group, three songs addressing violence against women were produced and distributed to radio stations, integrated into a human trafficking awareness theatre production, and included in 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence resources.[6] The song Alertos Da Vida was selected for Rough Guide’s Best African Music You've Never Heard.[7]
