Genesis
[edit]The creation and operation of the Eastern House Website is overseen by the KARTA Center Foundation, which has been active in the dissemination of Eastern European modern history for more than 40 years. The website was launched in response to the situation beyond Poland's eastern border: the Russian invasion and full-scale war in Ukraine, and the dissolution of the Memorial Association.[3]
The Eastern House, planned for many years, is envisioned to be built in Mordy as a hub for influencing the debate about the past and future of the peoples of Eastern Europe. It will serve as a cultural center, library, archive, meeting place, and publishing house.[4]
During the celebration of KARTA’s 40th anniversary on October 10, 2022, Prof. Antoni Dudek appealed for support for the Eastern House website’s activities. He initiated a public fundraiser, conducted under the auspices of the KARTA Center Foundation, to raise funds for the site's equipment and its first year of operation.[5]
Mission
[edit]The Show-Window of the Eastern House aims to promote democratic values and human rights. It is intended to foster discussion, research the dramatic past and present of the region, and work collaboratively towards a future based on democracy and respect for human rights.[6]

[edit]Collections in Ukrainian, Belarusian, Russian, and Polish.

[edit]A space for accessing physical and digital collections.[7]
Activities and Cooperation
[edit]The Show-Window of the Eastern House organizes numerous cultural, educational, and social events, including concerts, exhibitions, and scientific debates. Its message is directed at the Polish public and diasporas residing in Poland. The site's activities are hosted by national communities, with events such as Georgian, Belarusian, Russian, and Ukrainian national language days.[8]
