It was announced in April 2021 that Netflix was set to close a deal to acquire the film, which would see Joachim Rønning direct and Ole Sanders write the screenplay. In September 2024, it was announced the film had now been acquired by STX Entertainment, with Lionsgate in discussions to take on worldwide distribution and co-finance the project. McG was in negotiations to direct and produce the film.[2]
