Submission declined on 13 December 2024 by TechnoSquirrel69 (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject. Declined by TechnoSquirrel69 8 days ago. |

Shizico Yi (born 1973) is a British contemporary artist[1] whose work spans oil painting, ink drawing, photography, mixed media, and installation. Based in the United Kingdom, Yi’s practice explores themes of landscape, memory, and the passage of time, blending traditional and modern techniques. Her work draws inspiration from movements such as Impressionism[2], Japanese calligraphy,[3] Japanese woodblock printing, and conceptual art.
Yi holds a PhD and an MFA in Fine Art from the University of East London (UEL) and a BA in Fashion Design from the University of the Arts London (UAL). Since establishing her practice in the UK in 2013, Yi has participated in several exhibitions. These include a solo exhibition at The Brewhouse in Taunton[4], UK, in 2018, and participation in The 28th IFAEA International Fine Art Exchange Association group exhibition at H. Maru Gallery in Seoul, South Korea, in 2016, curated by Han Bong-Ho.
Yi’s recent exhibitions, such as Memory Landscape[5] (2024) and Nostalgia (2025), in her latest works include en plein air [6]oil paintings, Japanese-inspired ink drawings, and photographic collages enhanced with gesso, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach. Her practice influences by contemporary conceptual methods, bridging traditional techniques with modern art forms.
Influenced by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Gerhard Richter, and Katsushika Hokusai, Yi’s work is notably by characteristic brushstrokes, contrasts of light and dark, and on subject of of impermanence and the relationship between humanity and nature. Her early works demonstrate an interest in combining Eastern and Western artistic traditions. She was selected for Saatchi’s Young Masters Collection, curated by Rebecca Wilson, where Yi presented a screen mono-print inspired by Hokusai and Matisse.
In addition to her studio practice, Yi has curated charitable exhibitions supporting independent artists since 2013. Her curatorial initiatives, often held in central London, have provided a platform for emerging artists to gain recognition and advance their practices. Notable projects include:
Beautiful! (2023), a group exhibition featuring seven contemporary women artists, including Costa Book Awards-shortlisted author (2020) Karen Raney, at Siding Gallery, Waterloo Station, London.
An Overarching Impulse (2023), a solo exhibition for Lawrence Mathias at Fitzrovia Gallery, London.

Her involvement in the arts extends to film direction; she won the Women Filmmaker Award at the Best Shorts Competition in Los Angeles in 2013. Yi also serves as a judge for the New York City Independent Film Festival (14th to 16th editions, 2022–2025).
Her multidisciplinary background both in visual art and filmmaking, informs her narrative approach to contemporary art.
