Born: June 30, 1969 Nationality: Indian-American Occupation: Haute Couture Fashion Designer, Director, Actor, Philanthropist Shekhar Rahate is an Indian-American haute couture fashion designer who has been active in the entertainment industry as a fashion photographer, runway model, and theater actor initially and then as a haute couture fashion designer known for his craftsmanship, vibrant designs, and working in both the fashion and entertainment industries. His gowns are also featured on red carpets, major fashion weeks, and global cultural events.
Biography

[edit]Shekhar Rahate was born and raised in India. Rahate's father, Vasant Govind Rahate, worked as a government servant, while his mother, Sunita Vasant Rahate, a homemaker. He grew up alongside three sisters and gained early education in his hometown. Rahate started his early career with photography, theater, and modeling in India. In 1999, Rahate moved to Dubai, where he enrolled at Beams International Fashion School..[1] and graduated in 2000. To advance in his career, he went on to study at the Parsons School of Fashion Design [2] in New York City, where he honed his skills in haute couture design.

[edit]Shekhar Rahate’s professional career began in the early 2000s after he relocated to the United States. He launched his own fashion line featuring fashion couture gowns. Rahate's designs were featured in major fashion events, including New York Fashion Week [3], Los Angeles Fashion Week [4], and Paris Fashion Week [4]. Rahate's designs have been worn at award shows, including the Oscars[5], Golden Globes[6], and Cannes Film Festival[7]. His creations have also been featured at events such as the United Nations General Assembly Hall[8] in 2015 making him the first designer to display his designs in the United Nations.
His gowns have been worn by celebrities like Vanessa Williams[9] and Michelle Romano, and contestants from Miss Asia Pacific, Miss World[10], and Miss Universe[11] pageants. Costume Design, Film and Television In addition to his work in fashion, Rahate has also worked in the film industry as a costume designer, actor, and producer. His feature film Amidst My Own[12] received over 80 nominations and 25 awards, including five Best Actor awards for Rahate. Amidst My Own (2020), is produced by Rahate and he also designed the costumes for this film. In September 2023, Shekhar Rahate launched "Red Carpet Ready," a reality television series that premiered on CPICS.tv. The show offers a behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating couture gowns for events like the Oscars[5] and Golden Globes[6]. The series highlights the process of designing, crafting, and fitting gowns for red carpet events.
Philanthropy
[edit]Beyond his work in fashion, Shekhar Rahate has been an active philanthropist, working for “youth empowerment and education”, and is involved with various charitable initiatives. Rahate has expressed a deep commitment to helping young people discover their potential and is “in the process of founding a charity organization” to support these causes.

Shekhar Rahate Couture and Hollywood
[edit]Shekhar Rahate has been designing couture gowns for Hollywood celebrities to help them feel “confident in their femininity” and adorn his gowns on award shows and fashion weeks. One of Rahate’s defining attributes as a designer is his focus on enhancing the feminine silhouette with elegance and comfort. He often incorporates rich colors, elaborate beadwork, and intricate detailing into his creations, which have been lauded for their craftsmanship and attention to detail. The designer designed costumes for more than 10 films including the film Amidst My Own.[12]
