Seeing Spiders is an American metal band formed in Baltimore, Maryland in 2023. Seeing Spiders released their debut album, Seeing Spiders, in July 2024.
History
[edit]Seeing Spiders formed in 2022 when high school friends Andrew Tangrea and Donovan Fey met at UMBC and began playing songs by Black Sabbath and Black Flag, with Donovan on guitar and Andrew on bass. Agreeing to be roommates the following year, in 2023 the band name Seeing Spiders was coined after a joke Tangrea made. Their first song, a stoner metal cover of "Hot Cross Buns", was formed as a joke. Fey then met Nathan Au, another student at UMBC who joined the band later as a drummer. The three began practicing and doing live performances at their school's parking garage, in which strangers would stop and watch. Work on an album started late October 2023 and finished in July 2024, when they released their self-titled debut album, independently producing and distributing the record. A blend of stoner metal, sludge metal, progressive rock, and shoegaze; the band drew heavy influence from bands like Black Sabbath, King Crimson, and High on Fire. Seeing Spiders’ music takes on a darker, melancholic tone, exploring themes such as individuality in a conformist world, societal and environmental crises, and tragic narratives.
