Sebatian Poncerrate was a Dominican revolutionary leader. A native of Santo Domingo, he was of pure African ancestry. Civilian element that cooperated in Government functions as a member of the Justice and Public Instruction Commission the year 1865. Since the beginning of the Dominican Restoration War he had ben involved in patriotic activities in that city, serving the restoration cause with complete devotion. He was described as a "seal of rectitude" as the note of his public and private actions. When the Plaza of Santiago was besieged by the forces of the last Government of Buenaventura Báez in 1878, he was killed by gunshot that was fired through his house.[1]
