Sea Ray is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY. The band was formed in 1997 by guitarist, songwriter and vocalist Jordan Warner; guitarist Greg Zinman; bassist I-Huei Go; and drummer Todd Flees. The band was active from 1997 to 2005.
History
[edit]After several lineup changes, the band relocated to New York in 1999 and cellist Anne Brewster, drummer Colin Brooks, and keyboard player Jeff Sheinkopf were added to the lineup.[1] Early shows also featured Beth Hondl (viola), Jeremy Turner (cello), and Anna Quimby (flute).
In Brooklyn, the band developed their new sound and dynamic live show with visual projections, and began working on their next full-length release, Stars at Noon. The album was recorded in Brooklyn with Pete Min and in Bridgeport, CT with producer Peter Katis, who also co-produced their 1999 EP with Tobin Sprout. After the Stars at Noon sessions, Sea Ray recommended Peter Katis to fellow Brooklyn band The National.[2] The album was released in October 2003 to critical acclaim. The band also toured extensively over the coming years, with national tours with The Church, The Stills, Metric, and Longwave.
In December 2004 the band announced an indefinite hiatus[3] and played their final show on January 21, 2005 at the Mercury Lounge in New York.[4]
