Scribe Media is a private publishing company based in Austin, Texas[1] known for helping individuals and organizations write, publish, and market their books.[1] The company was founded in 2014 by Tucker Max.[2] and Zach Obront,[1] originally under the name Book in a Box. It offers a variety of services including ghostwriting,[3] publishing, and book marketing. Notably, Scribe Media allows authors to retain 100% of their royalties, differentiating itself from traditional or hybrid publishing.[2]
History
[edit]Scribe Media was founded in August 2014 by author Tucker Max and entrepreneur Zach Obront. The company initially operated under the name Book in a Box, offering ghostwriting services to clients who wanted to write and publish books but lacked the time or expertise. In 2018, the company rebranded to Scribe Media, expanding its range of services to include marketing.[2]
In 2016, JeVon McCormick, who joined the company as CEO[4], became a key figure in its growth.[4] Under McCormick's leadership, Scribe Media continued to evolve, promoting a culture of transparency and radical openness among employees. [4]
Tucker Max is an American author and entrepreneur known for his provocative writings that delve into themes of excess and personal struggle. In his youth, he engaged in heavy drinking and promiscuity, experiences he later detailed in a best-selling memoir that became a film. Despite this success, Max felt persistent dissatisfaction. [3]
He sought physical improvement through exercise and co-founded Scribe Media, a publishing company, yet continued to face mental health challenges. His perspective changed when he began exploring the therapeutic effects of MDMA and psilocybin, or “magic mushrooms,” which he claims positively impacted his mental well-being. [4]
