Save the Children Uganda is a branch of the international non-governmental organization known as Save the Children. It has been operating in Uganda since 1959. The organization focuses on advancing the rights of children and improving the wellbeing of vulnerable children, including refugees.The work of Save the children Uganda spans various thematic areas, such as child protection, education, health and nutrition, livelihoods and emmergency response.[1] It operates in collaboration with local communities, goernment institutions, and international agencies to address pressing challenges that affect the lives of children.[2]
Location
[edit]The headquarters of Save the children Uganda are located in Makindye Division, Kampala City, along Tank Hill Road. The office is near Muyenga Community Police Station and Refreshing Assembly Church.[3] Additionally, Save the Children Uganda has an office in Bujubuli Zone near, Kyaka II Refugee Settlement.[4]
Mission and vision
[edit]Save the Children Uganda shares the global vision and mission of Save the Children International.
According to the organization, it has a vision which is A world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.[5]
The mission is To inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.[6]
Key program areas
[edit]Save the Children Uganda implements a range of programs tailored to address issues faced by children accros the country. These programs are designed to meet the needs of children in both developement and emergency contexts.
Education: In 2022, Save the children Uganda partnered with the Ministry of Education and Sports to launch the Safe Back to School Campaign. This initiative aimed to encourage teenage mothers mothers, children with disabilities, and working children to return to school after the COVID-19 pandemic. The prolonged school closure during the pandemic had increased child protection cases and risk of children especially girls dropping out of school.
According to Save the children, the campaign was a critical step in ensuring that all children, regardless of their background or circumstances, have the right to Education.
