Sam Lin (Chinese: 林中宣, born May 28, 1991) is an American-Taiwanese singer-songwriter. He was born May 28, 1991, in Taipei, Taiwan, to Meihsia Wen, a school teacher, and Rex Lin, a music teacher, who grew up in a Christian household. He has a younger sister named Melody. When Lin was four, his family immigrated to San Jose, California, where he was introduced to classical music by his father at age seven, starting his journey in music by learning the violin. By age fourteen, he was already performing in orchestras throughout California.

Lin attended Cupertino High School and later graduated from the University of California, San Diego, in 2013, with a major in Communications and a minor in business.

Career

2013–2016: YouTube Beginnings

In 2013, Lin launched his YouTube channel, samlinmusic, , where he posted cover songs and performances. His early success came in 2014 when he won a national online video competition sponsored by popular violinist Lindsey Stirling. This victory significantly boosted his follower base and introduced him to a wider audience.

2016–2022: Move to Taiwan and Warner Music

Lin moved to Taiwan in 2016 to pursue a full-time music career. He signed with Warner Music Taiwan in 2021 and released six singles during his time with the label.
