Salut Galarneau ! is the third novel written by Quebec author Jacques Godbout. Published in 1967 with around 50,000 copies, it was translated into English under the title of Hail Galarneau! by Alan Brown in 1970. The author won a Governor General's Awards for the book that year.
Summary
[edit]In this psychological fiction novel, François Galarneau writes in detail about his life in his journals in the form of poems and accounts of his everyday life, on what he wants to do and wants to be, on his romantic failures, his siblings, and his feeling of failure in his studies. Other than his writing, he makes a living while working in fast food, where he is the "king of hot dogs". Family and love problems led him to get himself together and finish writing his book.
Title
[edit]As the title of the novel obviously refers to the name of the hero, "Galarenau" could also be the name given to the sun in certain regions of Quebec.[1]
