Sahi Jama Masjid This mosque belongs to the Mughal era and was built by Babar. It is said that this mosque was built in the 18th century and there is a dispute going on over it. This mosque is located in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.[1][2][3]
Communal dispute
[edit]There is tension in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh. There was stone pelting and arson of vehicles on Sunday (24 November) morning. Meanwhile, three people died. All this happened when a team reached Chandausi after the court's order to survey the Shahi Jama Masjid for the second time. A local court ordered the survey on Tuesday (19 November). This order was given after hearing the petition, which claimed that a temple was demolished to build a mosque in 1526[4]
This order was passed by the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Aditya Singh in Chandausi, Sambhal. The petition was filed on Tuesday afternoon and within a few hours the judge appointed an advocate commissioner and directed him to conduct an initial survey in the mosque. This survey was done on Tuesday itself. The court also directed that a report of the survey be filed before it by November 29[5]
This Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal is a protected monument. Which was notified on December 22, 1920 under Section 3, Sub-section (3) of the Ancient Monuments Protection Act, 1904. It has been declared a monument of 'national importance' on the ASI website. It has been included in the list of centrally protected monuments on the website of Agra Circle Moradabad Division.
Who has filed the case?[6]
A total of eight petitioners have filed a case in Sambhal Court. One of them is advocate Hari Shankar Jain (also a lawyer in the Gyanvapi Masjid-Kashi Vishwanath dispute) advocate Parth Yadav, Mahant Rishiraj Giri, Mahant of Kalki Devi Temple in Sambhal. The other petitioners are Noida resident Ved Pal Singh, Sambhal resident Rakesh Kumar, Jeetpal Yadav[7]
What is claimed in the petition?
The petition claims that there is a centuries-old Shri Hari Har temple dedicated to Lord Kalki in the heart of Sambhal city, which is being used forcibly and illegally by the Jama Masjid Committee. The petition states that Sambhal is a historical town and has deep roots in Hindu scriptures according to which it is a holy site where Kalki, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, will arrive in the future.
The petition states that 'Hindu scriptures confirm that in ancient times a unique 'vigraha' emerged by combining Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva and for this reason it is called 'Shri Hari Har' temple. It states that "Shri Hari Har temple of Sambhal was built by Lord Vishwakarma himself at the beginning of the universe[8]

History
[edit]In the times of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, this city was his capital and later after he shifted the capital to Delhi, it became an outpost of his kingdom. At that time, Alha Udal were the main protectors of this place. It is said that Udal hung a millstone on a wall in a single jump. Today's generation may not be familiar with Alha and Udal, but the tales of their bravery are still sung in the rural areas of Hindi speaking areas[10]Jama Masjid, also known as Babri Masjid, is one of the oldest monuments in Sambhal. A heritage site of Sambhal, this mosque was built in 1528 by Mir Beg under the orders of Emperor Babur. What makes it even more historic is that Babur himself laid the first stone of this mosque, thus, making it a place steeped in history. This mosque exudes a sense of peace and is reminiscent of the typical Mughal style of architecture and history. The mosque is well maintained and is a major tourist attraction in Sambhal[11]
