SIDSPACE is a Latin mnemonic to remember all the ablative prepositions up to and including GCSE level Lain. Although there is no conclusive origin, it has been heavily advertised by Weebly.[1]
The eight letters stand for sub, in, de, sine, pro, a/ab, cum, e/ex. These words mean under, in/on, about/down from, without, for/on behalf of, away from, with/when, out of respectively.
There are of course other prepositions that take the ablative case, but they are not common to see in everyday Latin or even most older texts.
I wrote this article to honour my Latin teacher Mr Preece-Smith, who was sad about the article’s previous deletion.
