Richard McKay (born May 19, 1972) is a British businessman who is the founder and managing director of Sprung Gym Flooring. He is also the owner of SuperStrong Fitness and sports flooring director at Sports Flooring.
Biography

[edit]McKay was born on May 19, 1972, in Glasgow, Scotland. He completed his early education at St. Ninian’s High School in 1993, and then attended Glasgow Caledonian University, where he received a bachelor of science in quantity surveying in 1998.
Career
[edit]Richard McKay began his career in 1993 as a trainee quantity surveyor at Bonnington Builders Limited while completing his studies. He later worked as a quantity surveyor for Medlock Group in 1997, managing mobile phone mast installations across Scotland.
In 1999, McKay became managing director of McKay Flooring Limited, a role he held until 2020. He oversaw flooring installations for projects including the Scottish Parliament, Gleneagles Hotel, and the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, as well as international locations such as Google HQ in California and the Ministry of Defense in the Falkland Islands.
In 2008, he started Tweetabix, a blog featuring interviews with early Twitter users, including Will Carling and David Meerman Scott. Two years later, he launched Floorcrunch, focusing on flooring trends, and contributed to publications such as Content Rules and Social Media Marketing All-in-One For Dummies.
Since 2010, McKay has been director of flooring at Sports Flooring, managing the installation of sports surfaces and court markings across the UK. His work includes projects such as the Emirates Arena Velodrome and Aquatics Centre for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Manchester City’s Training Ground, and the New Balance Hospitality Suite at the 2012 London Olympics. McKay established SuperStrong Fitness in Glasgow in the same year and became its owner, focusing on the supply of gym equipment and fitness equipment. In 2017, he founded Sprung Gym Flooring, where he has been serving as its managing director since. McKay also manages Sportsflooring.co.uk and shares advice on gym design and fitness equipment through his personal website.
In addition, he co-founded Global Flooring Alliance in 2009. As a founding member of the Global Flooring Alliance, McKay developed Whisky Barrel Flooring using reclaimed whisky barrels for flooring.
