Reichlingia americana is a lichen that was first observed within the United States in the Osage Wildlife Management Area of Oklahoma in 2018.[1] As it stands, it is the only member of its genus to be observed on the continental United States.[1] Reichlingia americana contains notable quantities of 2'-O-methylperlatolic acid, which has been seen in several other genera of arthoniomycetes, but Reichlingia americana distinguishes itself from other arthoniomycetes due to its unique thallus and spore morphology.[1] It further distinguishes itself among other members of the Reichlingia family by possessing a combination of immersed ascomata, comparatively short, submuriform ascospores, and having a number of chemical, substrate, habitat, and geographic distribution differences.[1]
