Early life and education

[edit]

Rania Ali was born on August 26, 1995 in Raqqa, Syria.

She holds a degree in International Relations and Development studies.

Career

[edit]

Ali began her journalism career as a freelance reporter, covering the ongoing conflict in Syria and documenting human rights violations in her hometown of Raqqa[2]. In 2016, she filmed the short documentary, "Escape from Syria: Rania's Odyssey,"[3] which chronicled her journey from Syria to Europe. The film gained significant recognition and brought attention to the plight of refugees fleeing the Syrian conflict.

As a public speaker, Ali has addressed various forums and platforms, including TEDx[4], Nobel Peace Center[5], European Commission[6], European Council, and UK Parliament, amongst others, to raise awareness of the situation in Syria and the need for international support. Ali has also worked with international organisations such as Amnesty International, the United Nations[7], UN affiliated organisations, Terre Des Hommes[8], Council of Europe, IFOUND[9], and others as a project manager, multimedia strategy expert and campaigner.

She has worked with the Guardian[10], Norwegian journalist Anders Hammer[11], BBC[12], and other media outlets as a film maker and writer. She is also a trained mediator.

Ali's work has earned her numerous awards, including the Webby Award[13] in 2018, Vienna person of the year, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Tolerance Award, One World Media [14], amongst others.[15]
