Rainer Goldsmith (Born 25 December 1927 in Leipzig, Germany) took part in Sir Vivian Fuchs's Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (TAE) that completed the first overland crossing of Antarctica. During this expedition, he was the Doctor on the Advance Party 1956/57. He was awarded the Polar Medal.

Rainer was born in Leipzig, Germany but left in 1934 when his family fled to Germany upon the rise of Adolf Hitler.

In 1957 whilst on the TAE he surveyed the Theron Mountains with Ken Blaicklock and subsequently the Goldsmith Glaciar was named after him in 1960.
