Preston Max Allen

[edit]

Preston Max Allen is an American composer, lyricist, and writer known for writing the book, music, and lyrics of the 2019 Off-Broadway musical We Are The Tigers.[1]

Early life and education

[edit]

Allen was born and raised in Texas.[2] In high school, Allen played the role of Ilona in She Loves Me, for which he earned a nomination for a Betty Buckley Award, a regional high school theatre award.[1]

After high school, Allen moved to the Chicago area to stay close to family.[1] There he graduated from The Second City Chicago Comedy Studies Program and attended Columbia College Chicago where he graduated in 2013 with a B.A. in Acting.[3][4] During his studies, he came to the realization that he no longer desired to perform, and instead focussed on his passion for writing material for his female peers and classmates.[1]

Personal life

[edit]

After graduating from college, Allen moved to New York City for seven years before returning to Chicago.[1] He lives with his cat, Hero.[3]

Allen is openly trans masculine and came to understand and accept his trans identity in tandem with the development of We Are The Tigers.[1] Allen is a member of the Ars Nova Play Group and the Writers Guild of America East.[3]
