Commander Dr. Pornthep Mamanee, or "Dr. Tong," is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, particularly in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee at Bangkok Hospital. He is also a member of the board of the Football Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage.
Biography
[edit]Dr. Pornthep Mamanee has been involved in numerous notable cases in the sports field. For instance, he conducted a physical examination of Robbie Fowler when the latter joined Muangthong United FC. Dr. Pornthep was the club's team physician at that time.
He was the attending physician for Panida Khamsri, a member of the Thai weightlifting team at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Dr. Pornthep also treated Kawin Thamsatchanan, the Thai national football team goalkeeper. Kawin underwent a rigorous physical therapy program and made a remarkably swift recovery. Impressed by the results, the physician who treated David Villa, a former classmate of Dr. Pornthep, requested copies of Kawin's treatment records to use as a reference for treating athletes under his care.
In July 2013, professional golfer Ariya Jutanugarn suffered a shoulder injury involving a torn rotator cuff. Dr. Pornthep, along with his medical team, performed an arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn tendon and reattach it to the bone.
Dr. Pornthep performed surgery to remove a bone spur on Chanathip Songkrasin's ankle and examined his hamstring injury.
Dr. Pornthep also performed ankle surgery on Sarach Yooyen, who suffered a right ankle fracture during a Thai League match between Muangthong United and Sukhothai FC in February 2017
He is also the doctor who treated Tanaboon Kesarat's knee injury. Many other famous people have sought medical treatment from Dr. Pornthep, such as Suthita Punnyayong, Jetrin Wattanasin, Nawat Kulrattanarak, Dassakorn Thonglao, and Thitipan Puengchan.
Additionally, he performed knee surgery on the left knee of Sapsiree Taerattanachai, currently the world's number one mixed doubles badminton player, in October 2017.
