Pop Star Academy: Katseye[1] is a Documentary show on Netflix that premiered on August 21, 2024. The show documents the journey of the members of Dream Academy,[2] a label created under the joint partnership between Hybe Corporation and Geffen Records. Dream Academy was created with the intention of forming a girl group representative of a global image that was based on the K-pop methodology of work and promotion. A total number of 1,20,000 submissions[3] for the show and among them, 20 were selected for the Dream Academy. The 20 members then went through elimination process by means of challenges which were called Missions which are showcased under the channel Hybe Labels on YouTube[4]. The 6 final members who made through the elimination then formed a group called KATSEYE which is based in Los Angeles. The six members of this group in alphabetical order are Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae.
The film is directed by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren, who is famously known for her Emmy nominated Netflix documentary Becoming. The Documentary shows the progression of the members from being recruited as trainees under the program, until their final selection in the finale labeled The Debut: Dream Academy. The selection of the final contestants on November, 17, 2023 was broadcasted live[5] on Youtube for worldwide viewers and followers. The overall training program undertaken by the members in the span of about one year is showcased in 8 episodes on Netflix. The trainees that are presented in the show include the 20 members of the Dream Academy. There is also coverage of a few additional members namely, Abby, and Naisha, who faced elimination from the program before the start of the Dream Academy.
