Polina Shabunina (Russian: Полина Алексеевна Шабунина; born 6 August 1998) is a Russian operatic soprano. She is currently a member of the Bolshoi Theatre opera troupe.
Biography
[edit]Born in Moscow[1], Polina Shabunina began studying music with Oksana Zakharyan at the Children's School of Arts in the city of Roshal, Moscow Region[2][3].
In 2019, she graduated with distinction from the Tchaikovsky Academic Music College and continued her studies at the Moscow Conservatory (singing class of Prof. Lydia Chernykh).[4]
At the Moscow Conservatory opera studio, she performed in La bohème (Mimi), Eugene Onegin (Tatiana), Aleko (Zemfira), Francesca da Rimini (Francesca), Gianni Schicchi (Lauretta), Iolanta (Brigitta), La traviata (Annina). She also performed Adina in L'elisir d'amore on the Chamber Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.
Shabunina gained recognition after the 17th International Tchaikovsky Competition in June 2023, when she won the audience award in her nomination[5].
In 2022, Shabunina made her debut on the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theatre as Page in Lohengrin in a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera and the Bolshoi Theatre directed by François Girard. In 2023, she joined the opera troupe of the Bolshoi Theatre[4].
At the Bolshoi Theatre, her repertoire includes Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Corinna in Il viaggio a Reims, Musetta in La bohème, The Swan Princess in The Tale of Tsar Saltan, Xenia in Boris Godunov, A Voice from Heaven in Don Carlo[4][6].
Other appearances include Zaryadye Hall[7], Shalyapin Opera Festival[8], Sirius Music Festival[9], International festival of contemporary opera by women composers "Muffled Voices"[6][10].
Awards and prizes

- 2021 — 2nd prize of the Natalia Shpiller International Vocal Competition.
- 2021 — 3rd prize of the Ivanov International Vocal Competition.
