On February 5th, 2024, online streamer Adin Ross invited American rapper Jordan Carter, known professionally as Playboi Carti, to be a guest on his Kick livestream following his performance at the 2024 Grammys. Ross initially made a deal with Carter, promising him 2 million dollars in cash, a Ferrari[1], and a deal with Kick for Carter's Opium signees Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely.[2] Carter ended up arriving 2 hours late, after initially walking out. Once on the stream, Carter briefly expressed love towards his fans and promoted his upcoming album, before asking Adin to mute the stream and walking out. He ended up leaving with some of Ross' money and his team allegedly got into a verbal confrontation with Ross. Ross later ended the stream and apologized to his viewers for the incident.[2] The stream was watched by over 500,000 viewers of both Ross and Carter's fanbases.
Background
[edit]Playboi Carti has been reported by fans and those close to him to be manipulative and untrustworthy throughout his career. [3]American online streamer Adin Ross offered Carter 2 million dollars in cash, a Ferrari, and a kick deal for his signees in exchange for an appearance on his livestream. Carter allegedly agreed to be on the stream and to answer questions from both Ross and viewers regarding his upcoming album and personal life.
Reactions and response
[edit]Carter's failure to carry out the stream immediately became a source of controversy and outrage, leading Carter to be threatened and doxxed, along with his family and signees[4]. Many speculated that Carter left due to being high off of drugs previously taken at the award show, while others believe Carter suffered an anxiety attack off stream.
Following the incident, Ross promised to carry out a follow up stream, posting on X, "Stream soon, Part 2, the right way for the fans...all questions will be answered", with a screenshot of him and Carter on a FaceTime call.[5] This stream would be promoted several times, with Carter even calling Ross on stream 2 weeks later.
On March 3rd, Ross explained to his viewers that said stream was unlikely to happen[6], and that he believed Carter only agreed to come back in an attempt to calm the situation down.
