The Piet Hein was a classic motor yacht originally built in 1937 by the Amsterdamsche Scheepswerf G. de Vries Lentsch Jr. in the Netherlands. Designed by Henry de Voogt, this yacht measures 31.33 meters in length, with a beam of 5.49 meters and a maximum draft of 1.55 meters. Its construction features a steel hull combined with a wooden superstructure, providing both durability and elegance.[1]
Career
[edit]The yacht holds historical significance as it served as the royal yacht for Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. With accommodations for up to six guests and five crew members, including the captain, the Piet Hein offers a blend of classic design and comfort. It is powered by two engines, enabling a top speed of 12 knots. Although no longer used as a royal vessel, the Piet Hein has been maintained over the years and remains a symbol of maritime craftsmanship.
