Phil Thompson (born September 15, 1974) is an American gospel musician, songwriter and worship leader known for composing the popular worship song, "My Worship".[1]
He started out his music career as a singer and songwriter with the urban contemporary gospel group, Ashmont Hill before moving on as a solo recording artist.
Early life
[edit]Thompson was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 10, 1974, to a preacher father. He has seven siblings, all of whom are either worship leaders or pastors.
Music career
[edit]Before his professional music career, Thompson served as a worship leader at Jubilee Christian Church.[2] He began his music career at the age of 30 with the urban contemporary gospel group, Ashmont Hill and was the writer behind several of their music hits. As a professional songwriter, he has written songs for many recording artists, including “Love Lifted Me” by JJ Hairston.
He began his solo career in 2017 with his hit worship song, “My Worship.” The live session video of the song garnered over 1 million views within two months and over 12 million views in one year.
His debut album, also called "My Worship," was released in May, 2018 and reached #1 on Billboard charts.
Phil Thompson has been nominated for several awards, including the Dove Awards and Stellar Award.[3]
Phil Thompson is also a well-traveled worship leader and has led worship in several countries across the world, including Ghana, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada and the Caribbean Islands.
His first ever live recording will be in Abuja, Nigeria.[4]
