Peter Gašparík (born 18 May 1977, in Bratislava) is a Slovak writer[1] and film director.[2]

Biography

Peter Gasparik is the son of the well-known slovak translator Tereza Gašpariková[3] and the grandson of resistance fighter Štefan Truban.[4] His maternal grandmother was Hungarian and his father is partly Croatian. After the Italian high school, he studied film direction and art at Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava an than in the USA at New York Film Academy, in Italy and France. He was a student of Umberto Eco for some time at University of Bologna[5] .

Creation

He made his literary debut in 2000 with the collection of poems Piece of my heart. In 2017, he published his first novel with the character Kornel Karovič, an investigative photographer-detective. It was called Beasts and Hyenas, and then several sequels were released.[6] In 2023, he published a factual autobiographical novel with elements of fiction called Villa of Roses.[7] As a film director, he made two feature-length documentaries with wide acclaim. Tereza - The Charge of Love[8] is a documentary about a mother's love for a disabled daughter, and the documentary Footprints - Fights in Banská Štiavnica[9] is about a grandfather, a hero of the resistance and a democratic politician. Both films had their festival premiere at IFF Art Film in Košice.[citation needed]
