Patrick Gillett (born June 13, 1985),[2][3] is a Canadian singer and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of Canadian rap rock band Down with Webster. He was also a member of the band, Honors.

Early life

[edit]

Gillett was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He attended Glen Ames Senior Public School and graudated from Malvern Collegiate Institute.[4]

Career

[edit]

Gillett formed the band, Down with Webster in 1998 with Tyler Armes while attending Glen Ames Senior Public School.[1] The group released their debut independent self-titled album in 2007.[5] They signed with Universal/Motown in 2009 and released their EP Time to Win, Vol. I that year.[6][7] Their second studio album, Time to Win, Vol. II was released on October 31, 2011.[8] Gillett was featured on the remix version of "Paint It Gold" by Fake Shark.[9] Their third studio album, Party for Your Life, was released on January 28, 2014.[10] Their fourth and final studio album V was released in 2021.[11] On April 1, 2024, Down with Webster returned and announced via social media, having a reunion tour in the summer.[12]

In 2016, he formed the band Honors with former Down with Webster members, Camm Hunter, Tyler Armes and Andrew Martino.[13][14] Their debut album, Feel Better was released in 2019,[15] and was inspired by Gillett's struggle with mental health, while maintaining his sobriety.[16] In February 2021, Gillett released his debut EP, Ultra-Pure via SoundCloud.[17]

Equipment

[edit]

Gillett owns two Gibson Les Pauls, with one of them being in drop D tuning while on tour.[18]

Personal life

[edit]

Gillett has been open about his struggles with mental health.[3] During the writing of Honors' debut album, Feel Better, Gillett struggled with depression which led to substance abuse and eventually left him unresponsive in his apartment. His bandmate, Tyler Armes stayed by Gillett's side on a trip to LA to ensure that he maintained his sobriety during recovery.[19] He lost his father in February 2020 due to a battle with lung cancer. When Gillett learned about the diagnosis, it resulted in him flushing "four years of sobriety down the drain." He went into rehabilitation and has since been sober.[3]
