Otto Bruckner (* 24. January 1962 in Oberwart) is an Austrian politician (PdA, formerly SPÖ (Social Democratic Party of Austria) and KPÖ) and communist union activist. From 1991 to 1994 he was federal spokesperson of the Communist party of Austria (KPÖ). From 2013 to 2019 he was the chairman of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA), and has since been it's deputy chairman.

Bruckner was born into a worker's and farmer's family in 1962. His parents belonged to the Croatian minority in Burgenland. He received education as a carpenter and at the same time was active in the ÖGJ (Austrian Union Youth), SJ (Socialist Youth) and SPÖ[1]. He made a career and became chairman of the ÖGJ, as well as a board member of SPÖ in southern Burgenland.

Bruckner made contacts with the communist milieu, left the SJ and SPÖ and became a member of KJÖ (Communist Youth of Austria) and KPÖ (1980). He was elected group secretary of the GLB (Union left block) and was active as secretary of the KPÖ Lower Austria. Between 1985 and 1989 he was chairman of the KJÖ. Between 1985 anf 1991 he was a member of the central committee of KPÖ. Afterwards he was a member of the federal executive board and between 1991 and 1994 federal spokesperson together with Margitta Kaltenegger and Julius Mende.[2] In 1985 together with Georg Zanger, Alfred Gusenbauer (SJ) and Gabrial Lansky he was a member of the committee "For a democratic and antifascist Austria", which aimed to counter Otto Scrinzis candidature for Federal President.[3][4]

On the 1. of January 2005 he left KPÖ because of disputes within the party. Between 2009 and 2011 he was a counselor for the chamber of labour of the Communist Union-Initiative International (KOMintern), which he was a founding member of.[5] He also was a founding member and chairman for it's entire duration of the Communist Iniative (KI) between 2005 and 2013. In 2013 the KI reorganized itself as the Party of Labour Austria, where he was the chairman until 2019; passing on his role to Tibor Zenker.[6]
