Oscar Youssef (born January 19, 2003) is a Lebanese filmmaker, musician, and content creator known for his exploration of reflexivity in cinema and his unconventional, edgy approach to music composition.[1]

Biography

[edit]

Oscar Youssef was born as Joe Nassif in Beirut, Lebanon. From the age of 13, he studied theater at Georges V Adonis under Father Fadi Tabet until he was 17. In 2016, he began teaching himself music theory and later started composing music in 2017-2018.[2]

Oscar transitioned to film studies at NDU Zouk Mosbeh, where he created several short film projects. He is currently working on his debut feature film, Halyaba, scheduled for release in 2025.[3]

Career

[edit]

Oscar’s music career began with his role as the frontman of "Sara the Band" in 2023. He later founded the band "Aswar," which remains active. His discography includes notable releases like Trinity (2024) and Chou Chou? (2024).[4]

In filmmaking, Oscar’s work is centered on reflexivity. He has developed a theory likening an auteur to a trinity, drawing parallels to Christian theology.[5]

Oscar also creates comedic and relatable content on TikTok and Instagram under the handle @oskarakooz, with his signature red bandana, amassing over 2 million total views.[6]
