Once on This Island is an upcoming American musical fantasy-adventure film directed by Wanuri Kahiu, based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, which in turn is based on the book My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Marc Platt, the film will be released on Disney+.

Plot

Ti Moune, a peasant girl who falls in love with a boy from a wealthy family on the other side of their island. Joining her on her journey to tear down cultural walls are an assortment of powerful gods.

Production

On July 30, 2020, it was announced that Walt Disney Pictures and producer Marc Platt bought the film rights to adapt Once on This Island into a feature film for the Disney+ streaming service with playwright Jocelyn Bioh writing the script and Wanuri Kahiu will direct.[1]
