Também conhecida conhecido como peixe bocarra, sua distribuição ocorrem em parte da região sudeste do Brasil, ocorrendo em rios e arroios com aguas profundas, frias e limpas. Estes peixes apresentam uma voracidade aliada a uma grande força e velocidade de ataque. Possui dentes proeminentes e grande abertura bucal. Sua coloração é prateada com tons dourados ou avermelhados em sua nadadeira caudal. São peixes predadores, de corpo falcado e cabeça afilada. Ambientes de riacho lhes servem de berçário, onde os indivíduos juvenis se abrigam e ali crescem.Habitam o norte do rio Doce, no Espírito Santo até o extremo sul da Bahia, com registros até o rio Almada.[1]
