Johnson's initial spending plan

[edit]

On September 8, 2024, speaker of the House Mike Johnson proposed a US$1.6 trillion plan to fund the federal government through March 28 and impose proof-of-citizenship requirements through the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. Johnson canceled a vote on his plan three days later.[1] On September 18, the House voted against Johnson's plan; former president Donald Trump urged Republicans to oppose the bill on the basis that it omitted verbiage from the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act.[2]
