Nurit Stadler (born 1968) is a professor of sociology and anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her research focuses on social and cultural aspects of religion, with expertise in areas such as perceptions of work and knowledge in ultra-Orthodox communities, the role of holy places in conflict zones, the veneration of sacred female shrines, ritualization, and iconography.
Stadler earned her Ph.D. in 2001 from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she was supervised by Prof. Reuven Kahane. She later undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
From 2023 to 2024, Stadler was a visiting scholar at the University of Leipzig and the Free University of Berlin. In recognition of her academic contributions, she was awarded the Humboldt Research Prize in 2024.[1]
