Background

[edit]

History

[edit]

In August 2021, a massive operation led to the infiltration and death of 16 communist rebels, located in Barangay Osmena, Dolores, Eastern Samar. The operation started a few weeks earlier when reports stated a group of rebels visiting local houses. Informants tipped police about the group, which led to police preparation and possible infiltration. Drones were sent, while local police spotted some landmines, which led the police to look up air support. A firefight then ensued until evening, a 13-hour firefight.[1]

On August 30, 2024, banned bombs were found in the Antipolo village in the outskirts of Llorente, Eastern Samar. Soldiers carefully dug the mines, with the operation successful. The bombs were thought to be from the Apoy platoon, which recently surrendered.[2]
