Lawal Michael Nasiru Bolaji, widely known as Nasboi, is a versatile Nigerian entertainer renowned for his work as a comedian, content creator, singer, actor, and internet star. His rise to fame is significantly attributed to his impressive impersonations of the famous musician Davido.[1]

Biography

Nasboi was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. His early exposure to music legends like 2Baba and Davido sparked his passion for music, which has been a significant influence throughout his career.[2] Nasboi initially pursued Mechanical Engineering at the University of Uyo, but his creative inclinations soon led him down a different path.[3] Starting as a comedian, Nasboi became well-known for his skits, where he mimicked the voice and style of Nigerian musician, Davido, earning him widespread recognition as "Low Budget OBO" (a play on Davido’s nickname). His comedy gained popularity on Instagram and other social media platforms, allowing him to amass a considerable fanbase.[4]

Nasboi attended Bright International Nursery and Shalom International Nursery and Primary School in Rivers State for his elementary education.[5] He then attended Istan Comprehensive High School and, later, Ogba Comprehensive High School for his secondary school education. Before heading to the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, where he bagged a degree in Mechanical Engineering.[6]

Nasboi has always been passionate about music, He initially pursued a career in the industry but faced challenges in breaking through.[7] His later shift towards creating short comedy skits on Instagram marked a turning point in his career. Initially popular for his spot-on imitation of Nigerian music icon Davido, he earned the affectionate nickname “Low Budget OBO.” He also dropped a song track titled “Umbrella,” in 2023.[8] His breakthrough moment came when he posted a video mimicking Davido’s distinctive voice.[9] The video quickly went viral, thanks to support from social media influencers like Tunde Ednut, propelling Nasboi into the limelight.[10] Since then, he has consistently delighted his audience with hilarious video content, showing his versatility by playing various characters, including the “low-budget OBO” and Chief Romanus, depicting the life of a typical Igbo man. He has also made appearances in several music videos and ventured into acting, featuring in films like Lockdown in 2021 and Passport in 2022.[11]
