Nancy Tyagi (born Barnava, Baghpat) is an Indian fashion designer popularly known after her appearance at Cannes Festival 2024.[1] She was awarded with Disruptor of the Year award at the National Creators Award in 2024.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Tyagi was born in Barnawa, Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India.[2] She grew up between Barnawa and Gharauli, spending parts of her early childhood at her maternal uncle's home.[3] She is the daughter of Maya Tyagi and Gajendra Tyagi and has a brother named Aahan Tyagi.[4] Her interest in fashion began at a young age, when she started designing outfits for her dolls.[5]
She completed her primary and secondary education at Thakur Phool Singh Memorial Inter College in Rankhandi and Chaudhary Bashir Khan Inter College in Barnawa.[6] Nancy pursued her graduation from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) while also preparing for the UPSC exams.[7]
Career
[edit]She began her career in fashion design in 2020. She moved to New Delhi with the aspiration of clearing the UPSC exams.[8] However, during the lockdown, she shifted her focus to fashion design, which eventually became her professional pursuit.[9] Her initial designs involved crafting outfits for her dolls, a hobby that later turned into a profession in fashion design.
Nancy made her debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, wearing a pink ruffled gown that she designed and stitched herself. The gown, which took her a month to complete, weighed 20 kilograms and required over 1,000 meters of fabric. At the event, she walked the red carpet as part of the Brut India Squad.[10]
At the National Creators Award 2024, she was honored with the titles of 'Disruptor of the Year' and 'The Fashion Favourite Heritage Icon of the Year.' Additionally, her contributions were recognized in the 'Creators For Good' category at the Femina award ceremony.[11]
