Nada Rajkumar (born Kumarakulasingam Nadarajah) is a Canadian broadcaster, author, and trainer known for his contributions to Tamil-language radio broadcasting in Canada. He is the head of Tamil programming at EAST FM 102.7 and has hosted numerous influential Tamil radio programs.
Early Life
[edit]Nada Rajkumar was born in Kankesanthurai, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He completed his schooling at Nadeswara College, where he excelled in speech competitions, winning his first gold medal at the age of seven. Driven by a passion for the Tamil language, he earned a First-Class Master's degree (MA) from Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu and later pursued PhD research in broadcasting.
Career
[edit]Rajkumar immigrated to Canada in 1985, where he introduced "Tamil Thendral," one of the earliest Tamil-language radio programs in Montreal, on CFMB 1410 AM. In 1992, he launched "Geethavani" on CIRV 88.9 FM in Toronto, a program that continues to air.
In his current role as head of Tamil programming at EAST FM 102.7, he also provides training in broadcasting and has mentored numerous broadcasters in Canada and internationally.[2]
Publications and Speaking Engagements
[edit]In 2023, Rajkumar published the book Vaanoli Olibarappum Uththigalum ("Radio Broadcasting and Strategies"), which was launched at the Overseas Tamils Conference, presided over by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin. On January 10, 2024, he delivered a lecture at the University of Madras titled "Broadcasting for Global Tamils."

- Bestowed the title “Venkalakkural Vendan” by poet Vairamuthu.
- Named “Thangathamilan” by the JARVIS Sports Club for his contributions to Tamil culture.
- Honored with the title “Tamil Peroli” by the Canadian Tamil Women’s Association.
- Received an Honorary Doctorate from Richmond Gabriel University, Toronto, Canada, in 2020.
- Appeared in the National Film Board of Canada’s award-winning film Welcome to Canada (1986).
- Hosted prominent musical events featuring renowned Tamil artists, including T.M. Soundararajan, K.J. Yesudas, and S.P. Balasubrahmanyam.
- Honored with the Platinum Award by Queen Elizabeth.
