Mountain Grass Unit

[edit]

The Mountain Grass Unit is a Birmingham-based bluegrass band that consists of three Birmingham pickers, Drury Anderson (mandolin and vocals), Luke Black (acoustic guitar and banjo) and Sam Wilson (upright bass). Known for utilizing the vocal harmonies of traditional bluegrass tunes, the Mountain Grass Unit, often abbreviated to MGU, also specializes in adapting songs from various genres to an all-acoustic format adding a bluegrass touch to country, jazz, funk, rock and even metal, making them appealing to a diverse fanbase with various musical preferences. They often are incredibly versatile when it comes to what they perform; aside from their original songs, all three artists are equally comfortable restyling a Tony Rice number, a classic Grateful Dead tune or covering contemporary jamgrass masters like Billy Strings.[1]

Mountain Grass Unit was formed in Birmingham, Alabama, when all three members were still in High School. They have been performing together ever since, and have often featured honorary members while on tour.
