Dr. Charulatha MD (aka) Monica Devendran is a British dental surgeon and Conservative Party politician who has served as Mayor of Amesbury since 2023. She is the Founder President of the World Dental Council and Chairman of the Amesbury Branch Conservative Association. Devendran represents Amesbury West as a councillor on both Wiltshire Council and Amesbury Town Council.[1]

Early life and education

Monica Devendran completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from MAHER University in India. She later pursued a Business Management Program with specialisations in Marketing, Communication, and Human Resources.[2]

Monica Devendran is the Founder President of the World Dental Council, an international organisation dedicated to advancing dental healthcare globally.[3]

Monica Devendran was elected as a Conservative Party councillor for Amesbury West on Wiltshire Council in the 2021 local elections.[4] She serves on several committees including:

In 2024, Monica Devendran was elected as the Chairman of the Amesbury Branch of the East Wiltshire Conservative Association, where she leads local Conservative Party initiatives and coordinates activities in the Amesbury area.[5]

Mayor of Amesbury

In a historic appointment, Monica Devendran was elected as Mayor of Amesbury in 2023, becoming the first woman of colour to hold this position in the town's 1044-year history.[6][7]

In 2024, Monica Devendran was appointed as the Patron of the Amesbury Men's Shed, a community project aimed at promoting mental health and wellbeing. The initiative provides a space for the community to engage in practical activities, share skills, and build social connections.[8]
