Emily May Pateman (March 26, 1893 – July 26, 1978) was a British missionary in the Gilbert Islands (present-day Kiribati). Her book Aia Karaki nikawai I-Tungaru (Myths and Legends of the Gilbertese People, 1942) was the first book on Kiribati culture to be published in the Gilbertese language.[1]

May Pateman was born on March 26, 1893 in Croydon, England.[2]
