Marty Holoubek (born 3 September 1990) is a Tokyo-based bassist and composer hailing from Adelaide, Australia.

Early Life

Marty Holoubek was born in Adelaide, South Australia, into a musical lineage. He is the son of guitarist and composer Charli Holoubek and author Susan Holoubek, who possesses musical talents in singing, piano, and guitar. Growing up surrounded by these familial musical influences, Holoubek's passion for music was kindled from an early age.

His formal music education commenced at Marryatville High School, a renowned institution he attended from 2004 to 2008. Demonstrating an innate aptitude for music, Marty was directly admitted into the second year at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, where he pursued his Bachelor of Music from 2010 to 2011.

Embracing opportunities to grow and diversify his musical experiences, Holoubek relocated to Melbourne at the onset of 2012. There, he continued his academic journey, completing his Honours degree at Monash University in 2014. In 2018, eager to engage with different cultural and musical landscapes, Marty ventured to Tokyo. This decision became a transformative chapter in his musical journey, leading him to become a vital presence in Tokyo's dynamic music community.

Holoubek's professional journey in music began in his hometown of Adelaide, where he quickly garnered a reputation as a standout musician. At 21, his talents took him to the Australian city of Melbourne, a city known for its vibrant music scene. Here, Holoubek's artistry flourished further as he connected with the city's music community and continued to leave an indelible mark as both a bassist and composer. In August 2018, in pursuit of new musical horizons, Marty relocated to Tokyo, Japan. This bustling metropolis, known for its rich cultural tapestry, provided a thriving environment for his creativity. Since his move, Holoubek rapidly became a distinguished figure in the Japanese music scene. His collaborations with esteemed artists, including Terumasa Hino, Jim O’Rourke, Eiko Ishibashi, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, ermhoi, Shun Ishiwaka, Soushi Sakiyama, HIMI, Black Boboi, Kakudo Manami, and Answer to Remember, have not only expanded his musical repertoire but also enabled him to fuse diverse influences, resulting in a unique and compelling sound. Beyond his collaborative efforts, Marty also ventured into television, becoming a main member of the NHK children's show, "Musica Piccolino," in 2019 and 2020.
