Mal (also known as Niskinei; ? – 946) was a prince of the Drevlians, a tribe of East Slavs that existed between the 6th and 10th centuries. He is known for revolting against Igor of Kiev in 945, killing him in the process. After murdering him, the Drevlians suggested that Olga of Kiev marry Mal, thereby giving them a claim over her domains. Olga responded by suppressing the Drevlians in 946, in which Mal was either killed or executed.[1]
Certain interpretations of the Ukranian chronicles claim that Mal was the father of Malusha, Vladimir the Great's mother. However, this is very unlikely.[1]
