Macon (born September 9, 1998 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany; real name Marco Marian Porombka) is a German music producer and DJ living in Berlin. The Deadmau5 album Kx5 that Macon collaborated on was nominated for a Grammy in 2024.
Career
[edit]At the age of 14, Macon began producing electronic music and realising it on his YouTube channel.[1] After finishing school, his business partner and manager Tim Schult invited him to a song camp for Moguai, whom Schult was managing at the time. This started on ongoing collaboration between Moguai and Macon.
In 2020, Macon founded production company 9t9music together with Schult and began producing his and other artists' projects under the new brand. His track history includes releases for artists such as Dueja, Oliver Heldens, Kx5 (Kaskade, deadmau5), Nile Rodgers, Moguai, and more.[2] In 2022, Macon signed artist Dueja to the label.
Towards the end of 2022, Macon took a creative break, aiming to find a more distinct sound and focus on producing his own material.[3] He began producing techno remixes of popular dance classics from the 2000s and would post them to TikTok, YouTube and Soundcloud in early 2023. He subsequently invented the subgenre Hypertechno and repeatedly managed to chart globally on Soundcloud. In Soundcloud's annual charts, he was named most streamed electronic artist globally of 2023.[4]
This was followed by official releases on labels such as Crash Your Sound, Musical Freedom, Spinnin Records, Virgin, Kontor Records, Sony and first live shows in Europe, Asia and Australia.[4] He coproduced and coauthored the track Avalanche by Kx5 (Deadmau5, Kaskade). The album the song appeared on, also titled Kx5, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2024.[5]
