The M/T Holmengraa was a Norwegian tanker built in 1943, requisitioned by the Nazi government during World War II, it never entered service under the Norwegian flag.
The ship was in fact used by the Germans as they had a great need for tankers during the war.
On 28 December 1944, it was bombed by RAF Bomber Command, which was trying to eradicate the threat of submarines sailing from Norwegian bases and launched a large raid on Horten with 57 Avo Lancaster bombers, the ship was hit in the hold while it was still anchored, thirteen people perished in the attack.
The Holmengraa was located by divers in 1994 at a depth of between seventy-five and eighty metres, north of the town of Horten off the northern tip of Lovoya.
