Luka Brase (born Dolný Kubín,Slovakia) is a Slovak visual artist. His work includes painting, drawing, collage, graphics, photography, book illustration and new media. He calls his technique "Lukagraphy" - photography in the image and gestures of the moment, composed of the terms "LUKA" - a drawing gesture capturing the impermanence of the moment and "GRAPHY" - a photographic observation of the presence and uniqueness of space[1].
December 16, 1982, inBorn in Czechoslovakia, grew up in Orava region, northern Slovakia. In the years ⠀1998⠀– 2002⠀studied at School of applied arts in Ružomberok, Slovakia. In the years⠀2002⠀–⠀2007 he studied at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, and in 2008⠀– 2010⠀he continued at Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica in the atelier of Igor Benca.
Works
[edit]He has done 30 solo exhibitions in Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, USA – New York, Washington DC, Philadephia, Los Angeles, China – Shanghai and Beijing.
18 group participations in the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ireland, France among them important show in Künstlerhaus Wien, Affordable art fair Amsterdam, Accessible art fair Bratislava and Cite Internationale Des Arts in Paris.
His art is a part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Art – SUPEC Shanghai, China and Orava gallery in Dolný Kubín
His works belong to private collections in many countries in the world. He is the founder of project Art on the way and represented by DE Galerie in Den Haag, Netherlands and Artgogo gallery in Shanghai, China.
Luka Brase is the founder of "Art on the way" and the project "Draw in lights", which is a unique contemporary project combining visual art with electronics, laser and art and presents a complex audiovisual show.[1]
For many years he has collaborated with the publicist and photography theorist Marián Pauer. He has illustrated several publications, e.g. the book "The Candidate" by Maroš Heček and Michal Havran.
He is represented by DE Galerie in The Hague and Artgogo gallery in Shanghai. In addition to the official galleries, he also personally presents his works in the "Luka Brase pop-up gallery" project in various spaces in Bratislava.
