Luang prabang Night Market[1][2][3] is a public open-air flea market in Luang Prabang City, Luang Prabang Province, Laos. It is located along Sisavangvong Road and ends at the intersections of Chaofa Ngum, Kingkitsalat Road and Sivanvong Road. Next to the market are the Royal Palace and the Haw Kham Buddhist Temple.

History

[edit]

The night market[4] began its activity in 1995 when Luang Prabang became a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage City at that time. At first, only the Hmong hill tribes came to sell their Hmong textiles and embroidery at this place in the evening. Over time, the market has expanded its offerings. Today, not only art and clothing, there are also many things to eat and drink in the square. Even though it is only a night market, there are many restaurants and shops. It has become a very popular place for people to visit the city of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every evening, except in case of rain, the life of the city center, especially the Luang Prabang Night Market, is very lively from 5 pm to midnight.
