The Lost Atlantis Experience is an interactive museum located in Megalochori, Santorini, Greece. The museum is dedicated to exploring the myth of the lost city of Atlantis and its potential connections to the island of Santorini. It combines mythology, history, and technology to present theories linking the Atlantis legend to the Minoan civilization and the volcanic eruption that occurred on Santorini in the 16th century BCE.
History and Concept
[edit]The museum established in May of 2019[1][2] and it's based on the hypothesis that the catastrophic eruption of Santorini's volcano may have inspired Plato's account of Atlantis. Some researchers suggest that the sudden decline of the Minoan civilization on ancient Thera (modern-day Santorini) aligns with descriptions of Atlantis' destruction found in classical texts. The Lost Atlantis Experience was founded to present this theory through interactive exhibits and to encourage exploration of the possible historical basis of the Atlantis myth along Santorini's history and geology.
Educational Elements
[edit]The Lost Atlantis Experience offers educational programs, workshops, and guided tours addressing archaeological, geological, and cultural topics related to Atlantis and Santorini.
