There have been infants who assumed leaderships of their state before they could speak.
Partial list
[edit]- King Alfonso XIII of Spain: He was declared king upon his birth on May 17, 1886, as his father, Alfonso XII, had died in November 1885. This makes him the youngest monarch as he was king on his first day upon birth.
- Mary, Queen of Scots: She became queen when she was just six (6) days old after the death of her father, James V of Scotland, in December 1542. This makes her the second youngest monarch in world history.
- King Henry VI of England: He became king of England on September 1, 1422, when he was just nine months old. However, he was also proclaimed King of France on October 21, 1422, when he was less than a month old due to the death of his grandfather, Charles VI of France.
- Fulin, the Shunzhi Emperor; he became the Qing Dynasty emperor at age 5.
- Ivan VI of Russia became emperor at 2 months old. However, he was overthrown by Empress Elizabeth at age 1. [1]
